French Defender Dimitri Payet Joins Marseille as Wing Back

Dimitri Payet, the French defender who has been linked with a move to various clubs in Europe, finally found his way back home when he joined Marseille on loan from West Ham United.

Payet, 29, has been one of the most versatile defenders in France for several years and is known for his strong work rate and aerial ability. He made over 100 appearances for West Ham last season, but struggled for game time under manager Slaven Bilic.

Marseille, however,Campeonato Brasileiro Glamour have always been a club that value versatility and Payet's signing will give them another option at left-back or wing-back. The club also signed former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko earlier this week, so they are looking to strengthen their attacking options too.

The move is a blow to West Ham, who were hoping to sell Payet for more than £40 million. However, they may still get some compensation for the player if he does not make the required impact in Marseille.

It remains to be seen whether Payet can replicate his form at West Ham in Marseille, but he certainly has the talent and experience to make an impact for the Ligue 1 side. With his arrival, Marseille will look to challenge for the top spot in the league this season.
